Hestia is a government initiative that combines defence services catering and facilities management contracts in regions throughout the UK. The services cover all three defence service organisations.

Uniware is operating contracts with Aramark and their facilities management partner in the South East, North, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Uniware are proud to be awarded the contract for the Aramark allocation of Hestia contracts which spans over 60 sites in the UK.

All Hestia sites in the first phase of the project had a simultaneous go-live of 1st September 2017. 264 tills and peripherals had to be strategically planned, set up and switched on simultaneously at 6am on the 1st September. The install and go-live was a success with no disruption to service.


Key to the success of this project was the ability to include mess billing for the officers. Uniware have worked within the MOD since 1998 and mess billing is an integral part of the Uniware Cloud solution. Through an integration with ‘Sage 50’, monthly mess bills are exported and invoiced. 

A P2PE & fully PCI compliant solution formed a mandatory requirement for all transactions.

The sites use the Uniware Cloud to manage all aspects of their EPoS solution including loyalty and site-wide promotions.

Campus Life and Uniware are now working together in order to facilitate a Hestia-wide app to be used to register loyalty and make payment at any PoS location across the estate.


Uniware Cloud requires very little daily management. All sales items, prices, promotions and product groupings are automatically fed into the solution via a fully integrated client-based F&B solution. 

Daily reporting is scheduled and delivered to the correct people at designated times and locations thus streamlining day-to-day EPoS management.

Hestia South East

First to be handed over from the Sales team to the Projects team was the 19 sites in the South East region. This order comprised of:

  • 153 VX820 chip & pin terminals

  • 153 space pole PED stands

  • EFT on client MID

Hestia Scotland & Northern Ireland

Second was the Scotland and Northern Ireland for 20 sites This order comprised of:

  • 90 Toshiba TCx Wave PoS terminals

  • 90 cash drawers

  • 90 scanners

  • 90 receipt printers

  • 90 VX820 chip & pin terminals

  • 90 space pole PED stands

  • EFT on client MID

  • Upay Go on Upay MID

  • OPX 2-way interface

  • Mess billing interface

Hestia North

The 3rd region consisted of 41 sites in the North. This installation included the following hardware and software:

  • 135 Toshiba TCx Wave PoS terminals

  • 135 cash drawers

  • 135 scanners

  • 135 receipt printers

  • 135 VX820 chip & pin terminals

  • 135 space pole PED stands

  • EFT on client MID

  • Upay Go on Upay MID

  • OPX 2-way interface

  • Mess billing interface

The North sites were further extended by an additional iRuggy mobile PoS terminal, docking station, MSR card reader, receipt printer and cash drawer.

iRuggy G10

Rugged by name, rugged by nature.

The iRuggy G10 is a mobile tablet with a 10.1-inch screen that has configurable components. With up to 8 hours batter life and hot swappable batteries, the iRuggy can keep operations running smoothly on full power.

Add the optional docking station to turn your iRuggy G10 from a mobile tablet to a convertible PoS solution. Being able to switch from a fixed terminal to a mobile by simply popping it out of the dock, allows you to serve your customers anywhere in your outlet.
